Decaf: The Turkey Bacon of the Coffee World
I don't drink coffee because I love the way it tastes. Though, if I'm being honest, the second that first sip of delicious, creamy nectar touches my lips, I honestly feel like the heavens have opened up and I can hear angels singing. I drink coffee because, like most coffee drinkers, I'm a good little caffeine addict who can't really get too far into my day without that boost of caffeine to keep me putting one foot in front of the other. First I drink the coffee - then I do the things. My point here, is that I don't GET decaf. Why do people drink it? Are you a decaf drinker? Can you please explain why??? As an aside - I don't get turkey bacon either. Sure, it's less fat than regular bacon.. but man, bacon is delicious.. and I don't want to live in a world that thinks that Turkey Bacon is a reasonable replacement for pork. It isn't.
I got up early this morning on a mission to buy a new pair of running shoes, and I knew that the New Balance Factory Store Tent Sale started this weekend, so I made the hour and a half trek to Skowhegan to find me some new shoes. I probably didn't NEED another pair of shoes. We all have our vices - shoes is definitely one of mine. (Let's just be thankful it isn't China White, or vintage Nickleback Albums.) I have a running joke with a friend at work, who, even if he has seen a pair of shoes I'm wearing 10 times, will say to me "Oh hey, did you get new shoes?" Shoes, shoes, shoes... but mostly, I'm obsessed with sneakers, Uggs, and LL Bean boots. Can't have too many pair.
After procuring my new shoes (and a new pair of running tights, and a new tank top...) I was hungry and decided I needed some breakfast. I stopped along the side of the road in Fairfield Maine at Flatlanda's Diner. Seemed like the hokiest place I've come across, to date, and it totally was. The food, however, was very tasty, and the coffee was delightful. They served the cream in tiny little milk bottles. These kinds of kitschy touches are not lost on me. I love them.
It's been a busy summer. I don't say that because it's already the middle of August.. (Holy crap, how did we get here?) I say that because I don't remember when the last time was that I didn't have SOMETHING going on during the weekend. Yesterday, I spent the day with my family at a BBQ at my Uncle Steve's. I sat and knit by the lake, and watched this yahoo run around. This kid.. there isn't a table that he comes across that he doesn't climb onto to sit on. It's the most ridiculously cute thing ever.
